ISLAMABAD: Local mobile phone shops in Pakistan are currently demanding higher prices for most Android and Apple smartphones. Shopkeepers claim that a shortage in supply, combined with the imposition of a recent sales tax on smartphones, has led to this price hike.
The mobile market in Pakistan appears to be taking advantage of the recent sales tax increase, setting prices at their own discretion and misleading consumers with warnings that prices will continue to rise. Many buyers are being told that if they do not purchase now, they may face even higher costs in the coming days.
Notably, smartphone markets in multiple cities, including Islamabad and Lahore, have also increased prices. Vendors in these cities assert that they are paying higher prices themselves, despite selling old stock at new, inflated rates.
How to avoid overpaying for Samsung and Redmi smartphones in Pakistan?
However, consumers looking to buy smartphones can still find ways to save money and avoid paying extra to local shopkeepers.
For instance, those interested in Samsung phones can purchase directly from the official Samsung website. The Samsung Galaxy A55 (8/256GB variant), which is priced as high as Rs143,000 in local markets, is available on the Samsung Pakistan website for Rs130,999.
Similarly, fans of Xiaomi and Redmi phones can save significantly by buying from the official MiStore website. The Redmi Note 13 Pro (12/512GB variant), unofficially sold for as high as Rs92,000 in local markets, can be bought on MiStore for Rs81,999.
Purchasing from official websites not only helps consumers save money but also discourages the black market that local mobile sellers have created. By choosing these alternatives, buyers can contribute to fairer pricing practices and avoid being misled by inflated rates in the local market.
