TikTok introduces new feature to identify songs by humming or singing

TikTok song search feature

WEB DESK: TikTok has launched an innovative feature reminiscent of Shazam, aimed at enhancing the way users discover music. This new tool, dubbed ‘Sound Search,’ allows users to identify songs by singing, humming, or playing them.

The ‘Sound Search’ feature not only identifies tunes but also showcases trending videos associated with the identified track, reflecting TikTok’s emphasis on video content. While the primary focus is on recognising songs, the tool also successfully identifies popular TikTok sounds and memes.

In tests, ‘Sound Search’ detected various popular TikTok memes, including the “Oh my gosh, she’s bald. She’s bald, and she’s torturing people who have hair!” clip from “Totally Spies” and the “Nobody’s gonna know” sound, originally created by a TikTok user.

To use this feature, tap the microphone icon located in the Search Tab within the TikTok app. Currently, ‘Sound Search’ is available to a select group of users, with no information yet on the specific regions where it is accessible

Unlike Shazam, which cannot identify hummed melodies, the latest update to Shazam includes functionality to recognise songs from apps like YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

TikTok is available for free on the App Store and requires an iPhone or iPad running iOS 12 or later. Ensure you have the latest app version to access this new feature.
