WEB DESK: Users on X, formerly known as Twitter, have been encountering unmarked advertisements in their feeds while browsing the company’s mobile apps.
Clicking on these ads redirects users to external websites, and there is no available option to block or report them.
Unlike regular ads, which are usually posts from company X accounts and are clearly labeled as “Ad,” these new ads lack any associated account.
At first glance, these ads appear to be ordinary posts, featuring an embedded image and clickbait-style text that could easily mislead users.
The addition of a “profile” picture created from the embedded image further enhances this illusion.
Several users have shared examples of these deceptive ads online, underscoring their misleading appearance.
This is new. A Twitter ad without an account attached that I can’t block or interact with. Glitch or trial balloon? pic.twitter.com/Nn05vJGkeb

What even is this @X? On my Following feed, we now just have random posts with no username, not a specified ad, no mechanism to report or engage with…
This platform has been broken for a while but it feels utterly in shambles these days. pic.twitter.com/doeUjvXq3x

Mashable has reported that these ads do not appear in X’s ad campaign manager, indicating that they might be served by a third-party ad provider.
