YouTube introduces AI-powered chatbot ‘YouChat’ for deeper video engagement

YouTube

WEB DESK: YouTube is currently testing a cutting-edge AI-powered chatbot YouChat designed to engage viewers in more meaningful conversations about the content they are watching.

According to Variety, the new conversational tool aims to offer responses to viewer questions and recommend related content, all without disrupting the video playback.

To access the experimental chatbot feature, users simply tap the “Ask” button located below select videos, allowing them to inquire about the video or select from suggested prompts.

According to YouTube, this conversational tool does not rely on Google’s Bard chatbot. Instead, it generates responses using large language models that draw information from both the YouTube platform and the wider web.

Furthermore, YouTube is also experimenting with another generative AI feature that condenses topics in extensive comment sections, making it easier for viewers to follow and engage in ongoing video discussions.

For content creators, this feature provides a convenient way to quickly grasp the trending topics among their subscribers. This trial is being conducted on a limited number of videos in English, with YouTube Premium members having the option to participate.

YouTube’s representative has expressed a commitment to evaluating how viewers utilise the new features in the coming weeks and months. The platform intends to introduce updates that enhance the overall user experience. These innovations are part of YouTube’s broader efforts to incorporate AI-based tools, following the recent announcements in September at the Made on YouTube creator event.

The initiatives include YouTube Create, a new app focused on automating video editing, effects, filters, and transitions, as well as Dream Screen, which leverages AI to create video and image backgrounds for dynamic scenes in YouTube Shorts. Additionally, Aloud is an AI-powered dubbing tool introduced by the platform.
