2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado unleashed

2024 Prado

Toyota has unveiled the latest iteration of its Land Cruiser Prado, known as the J250 Series, marking the replacement of the J150 Series that had been in circulation for over 14 years since its debut in 2009.

Appearance

The new 2024 Prado boasts a boxy and angular design with prominent wheel arches, a stepped beltline, thin pillars, and a high bonnet.

The J250 Series offers two fascia styles, one influenced by the 70 Series featuring round headlamps and turn signals at the edges, while the alternative variant displays a more modern look with smaller, angular headlamps. Both styles share a rectangular grille, skid plate, and square-themed mesh over the intakes.

The sides feature sizable mirrors and black body cladding, with the retro-inspired variant also equipped with roof rails and side stairs. The rear showcases a uniform taillight design and a skid plate just beneath a rugged boot lip.

Interiors

The J250 Series maintains a standard interior design. Toyota has enhanced visibility by lowering the instrument panel’s top surface, the beltline, and has reduced the mirror-to-mirror width. The new Prado includes Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of advanced driver assistance systems and offers three rows of seating.

TNGA Architecture

The J250 2024 Prado has been built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and it shares its platform with the 300 Series Land Cruiser, as well as the current Lexus GX and LX.

In comparison to its predecessor, the new Prado boasts a 50 per cent improvement in frame rigidity and 30 per cent in overall rigidity.

The 2024 Prado’s suspension performance has been enhanced, and features improved wheel articulation through double wishbones at the front with twin-tube shocks and a multi-link rear with coil springs.

Electric Power Steering

The important innovation in the latest Prado includes an electric power steering and the implementation of the Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism (SDM), which enables drivers to change the front stabilizer state via a switch. I helps in optimizing driving performance and ride comfort for off-road and on-road conditions. Other helpful systems for tackling rough terrain include the Multi-Terrain Monitor and Multi-Terrain Select.

The 2024 Prado has grown in size compared to its predecessor and the larger footprint makes it suitable for the North American market, where it will be marketed simply as the Land Cruiser, replacing the discontinued 200 Series Land Cruiser in 2021. The Prado will also be available in Europe, with deliveries commencing in all regions by 2024.
