Four tourists killed, five injured in Skardu accident

GILGIT: At least four people were killed and five others injured on Wednesday when a jeep carrying tourists fell into a ravine in the Bashu Valley of Skardu.


According to the spokesperson for the Gilgit-Baltistan government, the vehicle was carrying nine tourists, all of whom hailed from Punjab. Following the accident, Rescue 1122 teams from Rondu and Ghamba rushed to the scene and promptly shifted the deceased and injured to the Regional Headquarters Hospital and Benazir Hospital, Gamba, Skardu.


Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan expressed deep sorrow over the heartbreaking incident. He has taken notice of the accident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.


The Chief Minister has directed the Secretary of Health and administrative authorities to ensure the best possible care for the injured. In addition to his condolence message, he has expressed solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy. Furthermore, Gulbar Khan has ordered that the bodies of the deceased be transported to their respective hometowns promptly.
