PESHAWAR: In yet another political turn of events, 19 members of the caretaker cabinet of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) tendered their resignations on Thursday.
KP’s interim information minister, Feroz Jamal, said the resignations were submitted at the request of the Chief Minister in light of The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP)’s letter seeking their removal over political affiliations.
Meanwhile, eight members of the cabinet from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) have refused to step down, sources maintain.
“Eight members of the cabinet have asked for more time,” Jamal said while referring to them.
Earlier this month, Secretary ECP had sent a letter to CM KP to de-notify caretaker ministers, assistants, and advisers involved in politics.
Following the dissolution of the provincial assembly by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) the ministers took their oath on January 26.
