OIC lauds Pakistan’s efforts against Islamophobia

ISLAMABAD: Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to combat Islamophobia and its leading role in highlighting the issue at International fora including the UN.

In a telephonic conversation, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and OIC Secretary General, Hissein Brahim Taha discussed recurring incidents of the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and other European countries.

Terming the despicable act tantamount to violation of international law, Foreign Minister apprised the Secretary General about resolution adopted by the Parliament of Pakistan in a joint sitting and observance of ‘Youm-e-Taqaddus Quran’ across Pakistan on July 7.

“All steps would be taken to safeguard the sanctity of the Holy Quran”, said Bilawal Bhutto.

Pointing the OIC urgency in responding to these reprehensible acts, Bhutto commended the OIC for holding an Open-ended Extraordinary Meeting of the OIC Executive Committee on 2 July 2023, in Jeddah, and issuance of comprehensive Communiqué after the meeting.

Foreign Minister also briefed the Secretary-General about his telephone calls with the Foreign Ministers of Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye in this regard.

Bhutto also assured Secretary-General Taha of Pakistan’s complete support to all OIC initiatives to deal with Islamophobia.
