Pakistan-India war: Shehbaz Sharif thanks Azerbaijan for ‘unwavering support’

BAKU: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday thanked Azerbaijan for its “unwavering support” to Pakistan during the recent conflict with India, as the two sides discussed a wide range of issues during talks.
“I was honoured to meet my dear brother President Ilham Aliyev,” he said in post shared on X, adding, “. I thanked him for Azerbaijan’s unwavering support to Pakistan in the recent Pakistan-India conflict.”
About the bilateral relations, the prime minister said, “We reaffirmed our shared resolve to deepen Pakistan-Azerbaijan ties across all domains.”
When it comes to world affairs, Shehbaz said the two sides would continue working together for regional peace and prosperity.
The prime minister had reached Azerbaijan after visiting Turkiye and Iran. He will now fly to Tajikistan. The hectic schedule is part of the efforts to promote Pakistan’s case at the world level after the Pakistan-India war.
REGIONAL STABILITY AND SHARED PROSPERITY
Earlier, Shehbaz and Aliyev held meeting aimed at enhancing cooperation, as the two leaders reviewed the broad spectrum of issues and renewed their commitment to expand the strategic partnership through investments in mutually beneficial sectors.
They emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts for regional stability, shared prosperity, and maintaining principled stances on international issues.
At the same time, Shehbaz and Aliyev promised to deepen the Pakistan-Azerbaijan partnership and collaborating closely on bilateral and regional goals.
Meanwhile, they also agreed to organise delegation-level talks at the earliest to further explore Azerbaijan’s investment prospects in Pakistan.
The two leaders met in Lachin – a town that came under the control of Armenia in 1992 during the first Nagorno-Karabakh War, but later Azerbaijan regained its control in 2022 as part of the 2020 ceasefire agreement.
EMOTIONAL AND SYMBOLIC SIGNIFICANE
It is the reason why the prime minister said holding the meeting in Lachin, a symbol of Azerbaijan’s resilience and renewal, added emotional and symbolic significance to the discussions.
Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Special Assistant to the PM Tariq Fatemi assisted the prime minister during the talks.
