ISLAMABAD: The police arrested 23 suspects for kite flying during crackdowns against the perilous activity of kite flying in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
According to details, during operations conducted in different areas of Islamabad followed by 39 raids in Rawalpindi and its adjacent areas, 23 kite flyers were arrested.
The crackdowns were launched following Inspector General Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi’s directions who has called for stringent action against this dangerous pastime, which was deemed a threat to human life, said police spokesman on Tuesday.
He said the operations, which unfolded over several days, targeted key areas known for kite-flying activities.
The spokesman said that the IG has emphasised that officers responsible for regions where kite flying persists will face serious repercussions.
“Islamabad Police committed ensuring public safety and curbing activities that pose a risk to residents,” he quoted Ali Nasir Rizvi as saying.

He said a zero-tolerance policy was being adopted against those engaged in kite flying and endangering human lives.
Earlier today, deadly kite string has tragically taken the life of a 7-year-old girl on Tuesday in the New Shakrial area of Islamabad.
The girl’s throat was slit by a sharp chemically-treated kite string, resulting in her immediate death.
