ATTOCK: PTI Chairman, currently incarcerated, cannot be allowed to communicate with his sons via phone or WhatsApp as per jail rules.
The Attock Jail superintendent submitted a response on Friday in relation to a contempt of court notice issued by the special court overseeing the missing cipher case. This case has been registered under the Official Secrets Act against Imran Khan.
As per the superintendent’s statement, prison regulations explicitly prohibit PTI Chairman from engaging in telephonic conversations with his sons.
The special court proceedings were presided over by Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain, who scheduled arguments on the superintendent’s response for September 18, adjourning the case until Monday.
In a recent development, the special court rejected the bail applications of both PTI Chief Imran Khan and Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi in connection with the cipher case.
The FIR (First Information Report) outlines that former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Qureshi are facing charges under sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923, in addition to Section 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). They are accused of wrongful communication and use of official secret information, along with the illegal retention of a cipher telegram, an official secret document, with malicious intent. The roles of former SPM Muhammad Azam Khan, former federal minister Asad Umar, and other associated individuals will be determined during the course of the investigations.
