Shell Pakistan organises Tameer Awards for young Pakistani innovators

KARACHI: The 10th Shell Tameer Awards, a celebration of Pakistan’s brightest and most innovative young entrepreneurs, were held by Shell Pakistan Limited (SPL).
This year, the awards received over 400 applications, from which 30 finalists were shortlisted across six categories. The event was attended by leading business figures, industry experts, educationists, and other key stakeholders. Finalists presented their businesses to a panel of experts, after which winners and runners-up were selected for each category.
As part of the event, a panel of high-profile leaders discussed innovation, entrepreneurship, and progress in the startup ecosystem.
Shell Pakistan Limited’s Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Waqar Siddiqui said: “The impressive progress of young talent across a wide range of sectors is a welcome development, as they offer innovative solutions to the challenges facing our country. We are proud to invest in our youth and accelerate enterprise development through our flagship program, Shell Tameer – Building a Brighter Future for Pakistan.”
Key winners of the 10th Shell Tameer Awards 2023 include:
Circular Economy: Nayab Raza, founder of Algaverse. Her startup produces a biofertilizer product based on microalgae, which aims to address food insecurity, the energy crisis, and climate change issues that have a significant impact on farmers’ income.
Empowering Women: Mehreen Raza, founder of She Guard. Her startup produces sanitary care materials for women made from herbal and biodegradable ingredients that are also environmentally friendly, addressing the challenges of women’s reproductive health and menstrual hygiene management in the face of climate change risks.
Transport & Mobility: Muhammad Ahmed, founder of Inlights. His startup is a smart transportation system that uses emerging technologies such as computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize traffic signal timings and reduce congestion and waiting times.
Technology Innovation: Bilal Afridi, founder of Creative 3D Private Limited. His startup is also promoting the market for locally manufactured 3D printers, along with providing 3D printing services for problem-solving in various industries.
Clean Energy Solution: Shamir Ahmed, founder of HaloPlast. His startup produces biodegradable and water-soluble plastic bags made from renewable energy sources and biopolymers as raw materials, replacing traditional plastic.
Bright Ideas: Tauqeer Ahmed, founder of Bendcrete Constructions. Bendcrete Constructions is Pakistan’s first company that provides consulting services for bendable concrete, a more effective, safe, and cost-effective alternative to traditional concrete.

Bright Ideas: Ecopulp
Since its inception, Shell Tameer has strengthened local economies by promoting entrepreneurship. The programme has helped over one million young people in the country. Ten Pakistani entrepreneurs also won 3.8 million rupees in international trade grants to visit seven countries and expand their markets globally. Nine (09) Shell Tameer entrepreneurs won the Global Shell Top 10 Innovators Awards worth 10.4 million rupees, which were recognized at the global and national levels.
