Two WASA workers die of suffocation in manhole

LAHORE: Two workers of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) died of suffocation while working in a manhole in Gajju Matah area of Lahore on Wednesday.

The deceased workers have been identified as Ashraf Masih, 30, and Akram, 26. They had gone down into the manhole to clean it when they were overcome by toxic gas.

Rescue 1122 reached the spot swiftly after getting informed but it was already too late. The bodies were shifted to General Hospital where police initiated further inquiry into the matter.

These deaths, once again, highlight the dangers that sanitation workers face on a daily basis, often working in cramped places with exposure to toxic fumes.
