LONDON: An Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London was cancelled on Tuesday, just days after a deadly crash involving the same airline, according to SKY News.
The flight, scheduled to depart from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:10pm local time (8:40am UK time), was initially delayed by nearly two hours before being officially cancelled.
As a result, passengers have been left stranded at the airport. The next flight from Ahmedabad to London is scheduled for 11.40am local time (7.10am UK time) on Wednesday.
While no official reason has been given by the airline, Indian broadcaster CNN News18 cited “technical issues” as the cause.
Air India flight turns back after mid-air technical concern
The cancelled flight, AI-159, was operated using a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner — the same aircraft model involved in last week’s crash that killed 229 passengers and 12 crew members shortly after take-off from the same airport. Only one person survived.
Several British nationals were among the dead, a fact confirmed by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who offered condolences on social media.
In a related incident, another Air India Dreamliner heading to the UK had to turn back mid-flight from Hong Kong on Monday due to suspected technical problems.
