STORY: China said on Wednesday (April 23) it is opposed to ‘groundless accusations’, after Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said there was Chinese involvement in Russian drone production.

The Ukrainian leader made the comment at a news conference in Kyiv on Tuesday (April 22), days after he said China was supplying weapons and gunpowder to Russia, the first time he has accused Beijing of direct military aid to Moscow, something China staunchly denies.

“We have made clear China’s position on relevant issues, and China is firmly opposed to groundless accusations and political manipulation,” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said.

China and Russia declared a ‘no limits’ strategic partnership days before Russian President Vladimir Putin sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine in February 2022.
