“Defending democracy has been my foremost priority,” Biden said, reflecting on his presidency. Throughout his term, the US president said he navigated challenges with a steadfast dedication to upholding the values that defined the US as a nation.

“I have always placed the interests of our country above all else,” he stated.

Addressing the need for national unity, Biden stated his belief that passing the mantle of leadership to a new generation represents the best path forward for a united US. “To keep our country united, we must empower the younger generation to lead”.

The 47th US president decided to withdraw from the upcoming US presidential election amid significant pressure from fellow Democrats to exit the race. The decision followed a disastrous presidential debate where Biden appeared visibly disoriented and stumbled at several junctures.

Vice President Kamala Harris immediately replaced Biden as the Democratic Party’s candidate for president. If elected, she would become the first female and woman of color to assume the Oval Office.
