Delhi chief minister arrested

DELHI: In the lead-up to the Indian elections, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party, has been detained by the Enforcement Directorate over allegations related to a liquor policy scandal. The investigative agency was examining potential money laundering aspects of the case.

Kejriwal’s arrest marks the first instance of a sitting chief minister being detained in the history of Independent India. Despite this development, his party has affirmed that he will maintain his position.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) team arrived at the residence of the Chief Minister (CM) and initiated questioning proceedings following the denial of protection from coercive action by the Delhi High Court earlier today in the excise policy case, as reported by the Indian Express.
