TEHRAN: An earthquake in Iran’s Khorasan province has left four people dead and 120 injured, according to local media reports.

The tremor also destroyed dozens of houses in the city of Kashmar and was felt as far away as Afghanistan.

The earthquake, which struck with a magnitude of 4.9 on the richter scale, had its epicenter in the city of Mashragah in Khuzestan at a depth of 16 kilometres.

Local officials confirmed that at least four people were killed and more than 120 were injured. The injured have been transported to nearby hospitals.

The earthquake also disrupted electricity, water, and gas supplies in the affected areas, leaving thousands of displaced residents to spend Sunday and Monday nights in tents. Numerous aftershocks forced many people to sleep in the streets and parks.

Meanwhile, tremors were also felt in several Pakistani cities, including Islamabad and Peshawar, causing widespread panic.

The earthquake was also felt in North Waziristan, Bajaur, Malakand, Swat, Charsadda, Swabi, Deer Bala, Lower Deer, Nowshera, Mohmand, Mansehra, and Hazara divisions, though no casualties or property damage were reported in these areas.

According to the seismological centre, the earthquake in Pakistan had a magnitude of 4.7, with its epicentre being in southeast Afghanistan at a depth of 98 kilometres.
