France calls emergency UN Security Council meeting on Lebanon situation


France formally requested convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to address the escalating situation in Lebanon.

NEW YORK: France formally requested the convening of an emergency meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council to address the escalating situation in Lebanon on Tuesday.

The French Foreign Minster urged that all parties involved should avoid confrontation. He pleaded for the meeting to take place this place.

The call for emergency meeting at UN Security Council by France on Lebanon comes in the wake of significant casualties reported in the Middle East. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon have resulted in 492 deaths. It also left over 1,645 people injured.

The ongoing violence and brutality of Israel has less to a mass displacement of people from southern and eastern Lebanon, especially long its border with Israel.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) expressed deep concerns regarding the safety and security of citizens residing in southern Lebanon.

The UN force called for de-escalation of tensions, stating that the situation should be resolved through diplomatic means.

As the humanitarian crisis has worsened, and violence spilled from Gaza and occupied-West Bank to now Lebanon by an aggressive Israel, global leaders have called for immediate dialogue and action to prevent further loss of life.

The international community also fears escalation of the conflict to the wider Middle Eastern region.
