Golden Gate Bridge: Pro-Palestine protestors rally against Israel


SAN FRANCISCO: Protestors advocating Palestinian cause staged protests on the Golden Gate Bridge in the city of San Francisco, California located within the United States (US) on Sunday, as part of a coordinated effort against Israel’s crimes in Gaza.

The protest was organised with the aim to draw attention to the ongoing conflict and to demand a ceasefire.

In San Francisco, protesters shut down the Golden Gate Bridge for approximately five hours. The protestors carried placards with messages such as “There is only one solution: Intifada Revolution”.

The California Highway Patrol was at the scene, but there was no estimated time for reopening the bridge.

Similar protests occurred in other cities, including Chicago, where demonstrators obstructed traffic leading to O’Hare International Airport, and in New York City, where protesters blocked the Brooklyn Bridge. Additionally, protests were held in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Oregon, and other locations across the country.

Internationally, protests were also held in solidarity with Palestine, with demonstrations reported in countries such as Denmark, Italy, South Korea, Colombia, and Belgium.

The protests coincide with heightened tensions surrounding the US government’s stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict. President Joe Biden faces pressure from both sides of the political spectrum regarding Washington’s support for Israel, amid calls to reconsider aid to the country.
