India implements multipronged action plan to combat air pollution

NEW DELHI: The Indian government enacted a multipronged anti-pollution plan to curb the pollution levels from rising as the air quality in the Indian capital deteriorated on Sunday (October 20).

Delhi Chief Atishi inspected Anand Vihar bus terminal, a hotspot for air pollution which had an air quality index of 670 in the ‘hazardous’ category as per the Swiss group IQAir, along with Environment Minister Gopal Rai.

She said the government had formed 99 teams to conduct pollution checks and enforce adequate measures at construction sites throughout the city and initiated the process to deploy over 300 smog guns.

Despite the government’s anti-pollution measures, Bhavreen Kandhari, an environmentalist said the measures were welcome, however, inadequate unless they were enforced throughout the year and not just when pollution is visible.
