In response, authorities imposed an indefinite curfew and even suspended internet services across Manipur to prevent, what they claim, the spread of ‘misinformation’ and to ‘control’ the situation.

The suspension of internet access is a common measure taken during periods of civil unrest in the country of 1.4 billion.

Protesters reacted strongly to the recent horrifying news, as they set fire to the residences of two ministers and three Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

The violent response hints at deep-seated frustrations among the locals.
