NEW DLEHI: Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri was forced to lock his X (formerly Twitter) account after facing intense backlash online, following the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.
Misri, who has held the top diplomatic post since 2024, came under fire late Saturday night after releasing a statement over the newly agreed ceasefire. Soon after, Indian users began targeting him with slurs like labeled “Gaddar”(traitor) and “Deshdrohi” (anti national)
The trolling extended to his daughter, Didon Misri, a London-based lawyer affiliated with an international law firm. She was criticized for her past legal aid work for Rohingya refugees — a matter unrelated to the current situation, according to Indian media reports.

In response, Indian foreign secretary Misri restricted access to his social media profile, prompting support from Indian politicians and diplomats. AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi defended Misri as a “decent and hardworking diplomat,” reminding critics that civil servants act on government orders.
Former Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao condemned the attacks, saying: “Leaking personal information and targeting his daughter crosses every line of decency. This toxic hate must end.”
Congress leader Salman Anees Soz added: “A Kashmiri has made India proud. No amount of trolling can change that.”
Senior Congress politician Sachin Pilot called the attacks “unacceptable,” adding that civil servants who serve the nation with integrity must be protected.
