Iran’s Supreme Leader appoints interim president, acting FM

TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has declared five days of public mourning following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash. Along with President Raisi, Iran’s former foreign minister Hossein Amirabdollahian also died in the crash.

Five days of mourning declared in Iran

In the wake of this tragedy, First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber has been appointed as the interim president, while Ali Bagheri Kani has been appointed as the acting foreign minister.

Iran now faces a maximum period of 50 days to hold a presidential election to choose Raisi’s successor.
