Iranian President offers condolences to victims of mine disaster

MEHRABAD: Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian sent his condolences to the families after a gas explosion in a coal mine claimed numerous lives.

The incident happened at a mine in Tabas, a city in the South Khorasan province.

According to State TV, at least 51 people were killed and scores injured after the Saturday (September 21) night explosion.

Pezeshkian noted that this accident would serve as a lesson, and there should be systems in place to prevent such disasters.

In a statement he said, “Unfortunately, we learned that an accident occurred in one of the coal mines in Tabas and a number of loved ones lost their lives. I express my condolences to the families of these loved ones. I spoke with the ministers of health, country and industry. We are following this issue with all our efforts. The conversation I had with the Minister of Industry is that this incident should be a lesson that from now on, in the mines of our country, there should be a system that this kind of accidents would not happen; I imagine we can prevent this.”
