Israel arrests two female British MPs

JERUSALEM: Israel arrested two female British members of parliament (MPs) on Saturday, Yuan Yang and Abtisam Mohamed, during a delegation visit.
The arrests were confirmed by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, who stated that the MPs are facing charges related to spreading ‘anti-Israel’ sentiments.

Lammy described the detention of the Brtitish MPs as ‘unacceptable’ and stated that he has communicated this stance to his Israeli counterparts.
“We are in contact with both members of parliament and are there to support them”, he said.

The British government stated that negotiations should be resumed in the ongoing assault on Gaza, where Israeli military killed over 13 aid workers. The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, condemned the killings, labelling them as war crimes.
