At least 17 killed in Israeli attack on Gaza City school

GAZA: At least 17 people including children have been killed by an Israeli attack at the al-Zeitoun School in southern Gaza City on Saturday.

The school was sheltering dozens of displaced families. The latest death toll was 17 according to Gaza’s civil defence agency. The al-Zeitoun School is part of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Coordinates for such schools are known to Israel.

“At least 17 martyrs, including eight children, and more than 30 injured, most of them children and women,” reported an agency spokesperson, adding that thousands of displaced people had sought shelter at the school that was attacked by Israeli forces.

A separate strike hit another school in the same neighbourhood wounding a number of other people according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.
