KHAN YOUNIS: Journalists struck by an Israeli strike on Monday were the latest victims in what has been dubbed the worst ever conflict for reporters.
An Israeli strike on a tent housing journalists near Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, killed two and injured several others. The two men were identified as journalist, Helmi al-Fawai, and a young man near the area of the strike, Yusuf AL-Khazandar, by the Quds News Network.
Al Jazeera photojournalist Mahmoud Awad was among the injured and was pictured inside the tent as it was on fire. He sustained severe burns from the attack. Several others were also injured, including Ahmed Mansour, Hassan Eslaih, Ahmad Al-Agha, Mohammad Fayek, Abdallah Al-Attar, and Ihab al-Bardini.

Mansour is currently battling severe injuries and burns, as doctors are “desperately trying to save him,” as reported by the Quds News Network. Ihab al-Bardini is also in critical condition after being struck in the head by shrapnel that exited through his eye.
The attack was condemned by the Palestinian Journalists Forum, as they stated the attack as a “heinous crime” that deliberately targeted journalists, thereby violating “all international laws and conventions.”
Recently, US-based think tank, the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs stated that the Israel’s war on Gaza was the worst ever conflict for reporters. Before this attack, Israeli forces had already killed 232 journalists since October 7, 2023.
