Harris’s candidacy marks a historic moment as she becomes the first non-white woman to run for president from a major US political party. If elected, she would be the first non-white president of the United States.

Following Joe Biden’s sudden exit from the race, the Democratic Party adjusted its nomination criteria, allowing candidates with support from 300 delegates to join the contest. Despite this, Harris stood out with strong backing from key party figures and successful delegate support.

Although the party had planned virtual voting and symbolic voting at the convention, Harris’s candidacy was solidified ahead of the convention. In her speech, she expressed pride and gratitude for the nomination.

Analysts note that Harris is presenting a different image this time compared to her 2020 campaign. She has enlisted new advisers, including David Plouffe, who managed Barack Obama’s first campaign.

Following her official nomination, Kamala Harris will face Republican nominee Donald Trump, who has selected JD Vance as his running mate. Harris has yet to announce her choice for vice president.
