WASHINGTON: United States (US) Vice President Kamala Harris strongly urged a quick Gaza ceasefire, arguing that a two-state solution was the only viable resolution to the Palestinian issue in a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday.
The meeting between the two leaders was held in Washington. It focused on the ongoing conflict and the recent surge in violence in Gaza.
Harris expressed serious concerns about the casualties and humanitarian situation resulting from the conflict. She said that a two-state solution remains the most practical solution to achieve lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

This meeting follows a similar engagement between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden.
According to White House National Security Spokesman John Kirby, the talks aimed to address and narrow differences over the Gaza peace process. Key topics included potential peace negotiations, the release of hostages, and the threat posed by Iran.
Kirby noted that the discussions also explored the risk of the conflict expanding into Lebanon. The meetings highlight ongoing tensions between the United States and Israel, particularly concerning regional stability and diplomatic strategies.
The focus on a two-state solution reflects continued US diplomatic efforts to mediate and resolve the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict amidst a backdrop of escalating violence and geopolitical instability.
