Lord Aamer Sarfraz appointed Chancellor of University of East London

LONDON: British-Pakistani Lord Aamer Sarfraz has been appointed Chancellor of the University of East London (UEL). He officially assumed office today.

Lord Sarfraz, who hails from Gujrat, Pakistan, has earned wide recognition in the fields of business, public service, and philanthropy. He became a member of the UK House of Lords in 2019 and also served as a special envoy under former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. At the time of his appointment, he was one of the youngest members of Parliament.

As Chancellor, Lord Sarfraz will serve as the ceremonial head and ambassador of the university. The Vice-Chancellor of UEL described his appointment as “a moment of pride” and expressed full confidence in Lord Sarfraz’s ability to represent the university’s mission and values with distinction.

Lord Sarfraz is currently a member of the UK’s Joint Committee on the National Security Strategy. He holds degrees from Boston University, the London School of Economics, and the Royal College of Defence Studies.

“It is a great honour to become Chancellor of the University of East London,” said Lord Sarfraz. “UEL has empowered its students with the skills and confidence to shape their futures. I am committed to advancing the university’s mission and supporting the next generation of leaders and innovators.”
