France

WASHINGTON: French president Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday (July 11) he reassured allies at the NATO summit in Washington that France would have continuity in its international commitments related to the alliance and Ukraine.

Macron also said his meeting with US President Joe Biden on Wednesday (July 10) was detailed and precise, and defended Biden for what Macron called a “slip of the tongue” when Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as “President Putin.”

Macron added it was legitimate for Viktor Orban to travel to Russia and China as the Hungarian prime minister, but not on behalf of the European Union.

The French president made the remarks during a news conference at the summit, where he has kept a low media profile.
