WEB DESK: An iconic leather jacket, famously worn by Michael Jackson in the 1980s during a Pepsi advert, has been sold for an impressive PKR 86.3 million ($306,000).
The black-and-white garment surpassed expectations at the auction, where it was projected to fetch around PKR 68.9 million (£200,000).
This item was part of a collection of over 200 pieces of music memorabilia auctioned in London on Friday, which also featured items associated with George Michael, Amy Winehouse, David Bowie, Oasis, and The Beatles.
Michael Jackson donned the jacket in 1984, marking the beginning of a series of commercials for the soft drink company.
These ads are particularly remembered for an unfortunate incident in which Jackson’s hair caught fire during a filming session, resulting in serious burns.
It’s worth noting that he was wearing a different jacket at the time.
The La Rocka jacket worn by the Wham! star during a duet with Aretha Franklin in “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)” was also auctioned, fetching a remarkable £93,750 ($115,000), surpassing the expected range of PKR 10.3 million (£30,000) to PKR 20.6 million (£60,000).

Another notable item was the beehive hairpiece worn by Amy Winehouse in the 2007 music video “You Know I’m No Good,” from her final album “Back To Black.”
The hairpiece sold for PKR 6.4 million (£18,750), slightly above its estimated value.
Additional items linked to Elvis Presley, Queen, Johnny Marr, and others were also featured in the auction.
However, certain items, including a Gibson guitar that belonged to AC/DC’s Angus Young and a limited edition Yellow Submarine Beatles jukebox, remained unsold.
Mark Hochman, the director of music and posters at Propstore, highlighted that this auction marked the first time many of these items were made available to the public.
Notably, Michael Jackson’s memorabilia has previously fetched significant sums, such as a black fedora hat worn just before his famous moonwalk dance, which sold for PKR 23.1 million (£67,088) at a Paris auction in September.
