BIRMINGHAM: Operations at Birmingham Airport returned to normal today, Thursday, October 24, after a ‘suspicious vehicle’ sparked a mass evacuation yesterday.
Terminal bosses said the ‘safety and security’ of everyone at the airport was their ‘number one priority.’
Emergency services and the bomb squad had responded following the incident at the airport site early Wednesday afternoon. Some passengers were evacuated and departing flights were suspended for a couple of hours.
Following a search of the vehicle it was deemed to be safe and the airport has slowly returned to operating as normal. In a reassurance message on X, Birmingham Airport police posted this morning: “Our patrols take us to all parts of the airport, inside, outside terminal and old site. If you see us ask us about #ProjectServator and how you can help us maintain a safe environment for all.”

A Birmingham Airport spokesperson said, “Following a police investigation, some passengers were evacuated and we had to suspend departing flights for a couple of hours. That investigation has now concluded, and operations will slowly be returning to normal.
“All passengers are advised to check latest flight information from their airline. Whilst we apologise for any inconvenience and disruption, the safety and security of everyone at the airport was our number one priority as we worked through this incident with Police partners.”
While West Midlands Police said the vehicle is no longer being treated as suspicious. The safety of all was our primary concern and there is no wider risk to the public. The airport has resumed normal business with minimal disruption. We would like to thank the public for their patience and support while we dealt with this incident.”
