Pakistan’s Shehbaz highlights education at high-level SDG meeting

NEW YORK: In a speech delivered as a high-level meeting on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Pakistan Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the country’s commitment to addressing pressing challenges to education and disaster recovery.
The Pakistan PM announced the establishment of South Asia’s largest endowment fund in Punjab, aimed at bolstering education initiatives.

He stated that qualiyy education for underprivileged students was important. The PM noted that the Danish education system has been instrumental in promoting educational access in the region.
Despite these efforts, the PM acknowledged that approximately 2.5 million in Pakistan remain out of school.
Reflecting on the broader implications of regional instability, Shehbaz pointed out that since the events of September 11, 20001, Pakistan has endured substantial human and economic costs. Over 80,000 Pakistani lives were lost to terrorism and an estimated economic loss of $150 billion.

The Prime Minster also addressed the recent catastrophic floods that have devastated sports of Pakistan. It resulted in billions of rupees in damages. He assured the world that the government was ‘taking care’ of the situation and restoring affected areas.
Shehbaz said that billions of dollars have been lost in Pakistan’s economy due to the catastrophic floods.
