Palestinians begin return to northern Gaza after forced evictions

About 300,000 Palestinians have returned to northern Gaza, including 200,000 in just two hours of the checkpoints opening.

GAZA: Approximately 300,000 Palestinians have returned to northern Gaza, days after Gaza ceasefire took effect.

Reports indicate that about 200,000 Palestinians crossed back into the enclave within two hours of the checkpoints opening, with local report projecting that nearly 650,000 Palestinians are expected to return.

The return follows a prolonged period of displacement due to the siege of Gaza by the Israel military over the past 15 months, which displaced a huge majority of the populace.

The encircled enclave is completely decimated due to constant Israeli bombardment over a period of 15 months, which left over 47,000 Palestinians dead at the hands of the aggressive occupiers.

A United Nations report states that around 1.9 million people in Gaza were forcibly evicted from their homes. This represents 90 per cent of the territory’s population.

The current return marks a huge moment in Palestinian history, as it is the first instance since the first Nakba in 1948 that evicted people were able to return to their original areas. The Nakba occurred in 1948 when thousands of Palestinians were forcibly displaced by the occupying forces during the establishment of the state of Israel.

As per reports, over 600.000 of those returning are from northern Gaza.
