Palestinians in Ramallah rally to mark ‘Land Day’

RAMALLAH: Hundreds of Palestinians rallied in cities around the West Bank, on Saturday (March 30) to mark the 48th anniversary of ‘Land Day’, with specific emphasis on Gaza this year.

Waving Palestinian flags, and chanting for Gaza, people filled the streets of Ramallah, men women and children, with patriotic music playing and banners raised in support of Gaza and calling for a free Palestine.

Both Palestinians and Arabs citizens of Israel commemorate the killing of six Arab citizens by Israeli security forces during protests in 1976 over government land confiscations in northern Israel, an event now known as ‘Land Day’.

Palestinian politician, Majida Al-Masri said, “The Palestinian people are united in their struggle for the land, which started on ‘Land Day’ in the Galilee and in the Naqab but has now spread all over the country. All our people and the free people of the world are all united in this struggle in support of our people in Gaza and the resistance in Gaza which is for the protection of the land and the return of the rights of self-determination of the Palestinian people.”

She added, “On this day, the Land Day, rallies are organised all over the world. We call for the return of the rights of the Palestinian people, highlighting the right to the land. And, as we hear it being said over and over again, it is the land of Palestinians and therefore they have the right, from the river to the sea.”
