Addressing the UN General Assembly, Thani said the Doha attack was a “political assassination” that “undermines any diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the genocide against the people in Gaza”. It showed the Israel had become a rogue state.

Explaining his point, Thani said, “They negotiate with delegations and plot to assassinate the members of the negotiation teams. It is difficult to cooperate with such a mentality that does not respect the most minimum standards of cooperation.”

GAZA GENOCIDE AND THREAT TO NEIGHBOURS

Thani said Israel claimed to be “a democratic country surrounded by enemies”, it was “an enemy to its surrounding neighbours, and it’s engaged in a genocide”.

He stressed the need for respecting the the international rules-based order.

“These rules are based on the maintenance of international peace and security and the respect for human dignity and state sovereignty and a non-interference in internal affairs and to cooperate for the benefit of our peoples.”

“This means, if we allow violations to continue, it means allowing the rule of the jungle, where perpetrators and violators enjoy benefits just because they can,” he said.

GREATER ISRAEL

As King Abdullah II raised the issue of Greater Israel, he wondered what the world reaction would have been if projected by an Arab leader.

“I can’t help but wonder, if a similar outrageous goal were made by an Arab leader, would it be met with the same global apathy?” he said.

The Jordanian king in his speech argued the case for the two-state solution as well.

“Security will only come when Palestine and Israel begin to coexist side by side. This is the two state solution, in line with international law and UN resolutions – an independent and viable Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, alongside the state of Israel.”
