WISCONSIN: Republican vice-presidential candidate J D Vance said on Wednesday (August 28) that it is not the United States’ business to “micromanage Israel’s war in the Middle East.”

The Ohio senator spoke during a rally in De Pere, Wisconsin, and criticized Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris for her plans to end the conflict while withholding the necessary equipment from Tel Aviv.

He argued that the solution is to provide Israel with precision weapons to minimize civilian casualties and allow them to swiftly defeat Hamas.

Throughout her campaign, Harris has repeatedly called for an immediate ceasefire and a hostage release agreement in Gaza, while affirming both Israel’s right to defend itself and the Palestinians’ right to self-determination.

Israel’s war in the enclave followed an attack by Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on October 7 in which 1,200 people were killed and about 250 taken hostage, according to Israeli tallies.

Israel’s subsequent assault on Gaza has killed over 40,000, according to Gaza health officials and displaced nearly its entire 2.3 million population. It has also caused a hunger crisis and led to genocide allegations at the World Court, which Israel denies.
