RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has condemned Israel’s attack on Iran this morning and dubbed it as a “violation of its sovereignty” and international laws. It has urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and called on the international community to take action towards de-escalation and ending conflicts in the region.
The comments came in a Saudi Foreign Ministry statement after Israel this morning launched several waves of what it called “precise strikes” on Iranian military sites, including air defense batteries and ballistic missile manufacturing sites.
Israel says the sites were used in Iran’s latest attack on Israel on October 1 and an earlier attack on April 14.
A statement run by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), said: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expresses its condemnation and denunciation of the military targeting of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is a violation of its sovereignty and a violation of international laws and norms.”
“The Kingdom affirms its unwavering position in its rejection of the continued escalation in the region and the expansion of the conflict that threatens the security and stability of the countries and people of the region. “
Tehran says Israeli strikes did “limited” damage
The Kingdom urges all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and reduce escalation, and warns of the consequences of continuing military conflicts in the region.”
“The Kingdom calls on the international community and influential and active parties to carry out their roles and responsibilities towards reducing escalation and ending the conflicts in the region.”
The Saudi statement does not mention Israel by name.
Jerusalem and Riyadh have never had diplomatic relations, despite US efforts which stalled after Hamas’s October 7 massacre in southern Israel last year and the ensuing war in Gaza.
