Seven injured in magnitude 4.9 earthquake in Iran

KHANEH ZENYAN: A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck southern Iran on Friday, injuring at least seven people, state media reported.
There was minor damage in the quake, at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles), that struck Khaneh Zenyan near Shiraz, the media said. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas.

Transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone may also be temporarily shut down to check for damage. Utility outages are possible, particularly near the earthquake’s epicenter.
Earlier on October 17, a 5.5 magnitude quake had struck northern Iran. The country is crisscrossed by major geological fault lines and has suffered several devastating earthquakes in recent years.
