Sheikh Hasina party demands her extradition from India

Hasina's ouster

DHAKA: The Bangladesh Awami League, previously led by the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, called for her extradition from India.

The Awami League claims that India’s protection of the former Bangladeshi PM posed a threat to democracy in Bangladesh and hinders the democratic process.

The BNP urged the Indian government to hand over Sheikh Hasina so that she can face trial in Bangladesh for 31 criminal cases against her. The cases include charges of massacre and war crimes, which have emerged following the success of the student movement and the removal of the Awami League from power.

The International Crimes Tribunal, which has previously convicted and sentenced more than 100 people for war crimes, is handling these cases against Sheikh Hasina.

The tribunal was established in 2010 and has also prosecuted leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh.
