KABUL: In a latest move of Taliban government’s bans on Afghanistan’s citizens, windows in homes have been banned.
Afghan News agency reported that the government spokesperson has announced a ban on windows that overlook areas used by the women, and to ensure that such existing windows are blocked. These ‘areas’, as mentioned in the new order, include kitchens, courtyards and other places inside the homes frequented by women.
“Such windows that expose neighbors should be closed,” the statement by the Taliban government said.
The spokesperson also informed that the ban is being imposed on the orders of Supreme Leader of Afghanistan Amir Haibatullah Akhundzada.
EDUCATION, EMPLOYMENT AND MUSIC IS ALREADY BANNED FOR WOMEN
In 2021, the Taliban took over the Afghan government and since then women in the country have been slowly pushed back from public spaces. As of December 2024, there is a complete ban on the education of women after primary school. There are also strict restrictions on employment of women, with the Television and Radio channels prohibited from airing actresses and female voices.
Women are also barred from parks and public spaces, and there have also been orders by the Taliban government against women reciting poetry or indulging in music outside their homes.
