WASHINGTON: According to an NBC News poll on Sunday, current vice president and presidential nominee Kamala Harris is leading the election race against former President Donald Trump.
The latest polls found Harris to have a five-point lead over former President Donald Trump, 49 per cent to 44 per cent. It is a welcome change from July’s polls which were conducted before President Joe Biden’s exit, and saw Trump ahead by two points.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Sinclair Media Group, Trump stated “I think that will be, that will be it,” in regards to whether he would run again in 2028 if he lost this year’s election.
“I don’t see that at all,” said the 78-year old Republican nominee. However, he remained optimistic for the election in November, saying “I think hopefully were going to be very successful.”
Harris also challenged Trump to a second debate before the election, taunting him at a New York fundraiser as she addressed supporters saying her opponent “seems to be looking for an excuse.”
“He should accept because I feel very strongly that we owe it to the American people, to the voters, to meet once more before election day,” said the Democratic nominee.

Harris had accepted an invitation the CNN debate on 23 October, however Trump said it was “too late” when addressing his supporters at a rally. The Republican nominee had stated after their last meeting on 10 September that there would be no further debates.
In the latest polls, Harris’ favourability has risen by 16 points since July. This is the most for any politician in a NBC News poll since former President George W. Bush.
