Trump’s new plan: Cash offer for immigrants to exit US

Trump's new offer to undocumented immigrants

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has introduced a controversial plan offering cash and plane tickets to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily choose to leave the country. The proposal marks a shift from his earlier hardline stance on immigration.

In an exclusive interview with Fox Noticias, Trump said that immigrants who choose to “self-deport” would be provided with a stipend and airfare to return to their home countries.

He added that those considered “good individuals” might be allowed to re-enter the US legally in the future. “We are going to give them a stipend, some money and a plane ticket,” Trump said. “If they’re good and we want them back, we’ll work to bring them back in legally.”

Though the plan’s full details have yet to be announced, it reflects a softer approach compared to Trump’s previous emphasis on forced removals and mass deportations.

Undocumented immigrants are currently being advised to use a US Customs and Border Protection app to show their intent to leave.

Trump said his administration will still focus on deporting criminals. “We are getting the murderers out,” he stressed, saying those with criminal records remain a top priority.

The former president also spoke about the challenges faced by the agriculture and hospitality sectors due to labor shortages. He said the new plan could ease pressure on industries relying on undocumented workers. “It would be very soothing for farmers,” Trump added.

Immigrant rights groups have expressed concern over the proposal. They say financial incentives could pressure vulnerable people to leave. However, Trump’s team insists the policy offers a balanced way to control illegal immigration while allowing room for legal return in the future.
