Typhoon Gaemi hits China after devastation in Taiwan

BEIJING: Typhoon Gaemi intensified as it moves through Fujian province in China, following its devastating impact on Taiwan.
The Chinese Meteorological Department reported that Fujian’s coastal regions were now facing extreme rainfall and severe weather conditions as the storm progressed.

In Taiwan, the typhoon made landfall on July 22. It caused significant disruption and loss on the tiny island.
The storm resulted in three fatalities and over 260 injuries due to various storm-related incidents. The severe weather conditions also led to widespread closures, including schools, offices, and businesses.
Train services have been suspended for two consecutive days, and hundreds of flights, both domestic and international, have been canceled, creating major travel disruptions.

The typhoon’s impact has also caused a substantial power outage, affecting approximately 500,000 residents. In addition to the turmoil in Taiwan, typhoon Gami has contributed to significant flooding and landslides in the Philippines, where 22 people have lost their lives.
