UN Security Council: Iran and Israel exchange heated words


During the UN Security Council, representatives from Iran and Israel demanding reciprocal action as tensions soar in the Middle East.

NEW YORK: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) convened on Monday, with representatives from Iran and Israel demanding reciprocal action as tensions soar to unprecedented levels in the Middle East.

The meeting was called after a recent increase in military confrontations, including Iran’s missile strikes on Israel and Israel’s airstrikes on Iran’s military positions.

Iran envoy Amir Saeid Iravani condemned Israel’s military operations, labeling them as “aggression” that warrants immediate intervention from the UNSC.

He warned that ignoring Israel’s actions would compromise the council’s authority and responsibilities. Iravani stated that Iran retained the right to respond to Israel attacks at a time of its choosing.  

In a counterstatement, Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, warned of ‘serious’ consequences should Iran continue its ‘aggressive’ behaviour.

He called for the UNSC to impose sanctions targeting Iran’s military and economic sector to prevent the nation from developing nuclear capabilities.

Meanwhile, the United States (US) representative stated that any Iranian actions against Israel or US personnel would lead to a “huge consequences”.

The delegate reiterated that the US sought to avoid ‘further escalation; but will take necessary defensive measures.
