Pakistan-India tensions

ISLAMABAD: The US Mission in Pakistan has issued a security alert urging American citizens to exercise extreme caution amid evolving military activity and temporary flight suspensions in Pakistan, as tensions escalate between Pakistan and India.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the US Embassy in Islamabad and the Consulates General in Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar confirmed they remain open for regular business but are closely monitoring the situation.

The US mission acknowledged that while some civilian flights operated overnight, the situation remains fluid, and travellers are advised to confirm their flight status with airlines or respective airport authorities.

The US State Department reiterated its standing travel advisories, which include a “Do Not Travel” warning for areas near the India-Pakistan border and the Line of Control due to risks of terrorism and potential armed conflict, as well as a broader “Reconsider Travel” advisory for Pakistan.

American citizens in areas affected by military activity have been advised to leave if it is safe to do so, or otherwise shelter in place. The alert also urged US nationals to monitor local media, keep a low profile, carry identification, and review their personal security plans.

The embassy reminded citizens to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely updates and assistance. Contact information for all US consulates in Pakistan was provided for those seeking further support.
