WASHINGTON: As the Iran-Israel conflict enters its sixth day, a recent survey indicates that a significant majority of the American public is opposed to direct US involvement in the escalating hostilities.
According to the survey, 60 per cent of Americans are against the US engaging in the conflict, while only 16 per cent believe that the US should intervene.

The survey results reveal a notable divide among political affiliations. Approximately 65 per cent of Democrats oppose US involvement in the war, while 53 per cent of the Republicans, including members of US President Donald Trump’s party, share similar sentiments.
This widespread reluctance among the American populace reflects a growing desire to avoid entanglement in foreign conflicts, particularly in the Middle East.
US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has been vocal in her opposition to the US involvement. She stated that “it is time to stop dragging Americans into war”. The ethnic Palestinian said that “no one is attacking, nor have Americans been attacked”.
She urged the Republican led government of Donald Trump to refrain from joining the Israeli war once again. Ilhan called for Americans who advocate for peace to stand up and expressed concern about involving a new generation of Americans in what she described as a “costly war”.
The conflict has escalated to such a degree that the US State Department issued a travel advisory for American citizens. A spokesperson stated that US citizens should not travel to Iran under any circumstances.

It also advised against travelling to Iraq. “Our first priority is the safety of Americans around the world”, the department’s spokesperson, Tammy Bruce, said.
To assist the US citizens stranded in the region, a Middle East task force was established, with the aim of ensuring their safety.
