US support to Israel divides Trump coalition

WASHINGTON: Cracks are appearing in the Trump coalition, as the US is getting closer to jumping into the Israel-Iran war after the years of promises made by the president not to get involved in military conflicts.
Trump has been very critical of the former administrations, especially of the George W Bush, for starting disastrous campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan.
He had even predicted that former president Barrack Obama would go for war against Iran to boost his chances of re-election in 2012.
With years of wars, trillions of dollars spent and thousands of deaths or wounded soldiers, Trump had been telling his supporters that his administration would not trigger another war and focus on Making America Great Again. Hence, the MAGA.
Before returning to the White House for second term, Trump had also boasted again and again that he would end the Ukraine war within days. He presented himself as a man of peace.
However, things have changed to an extent that Trump is threatening Iran and demanding an “unconditional surrender”.

MAGA AGAINST IRAN WAR
That is why a recent survey shows that 60 per cent of the Americans are against US involvement in the Israel-Iran conflict.
Only 16 per cent are in favour with the remaining 24 per cent not sure.
Tucker Carlson is one of the best-known faces of the American far right, who has been supporting and promoting Trump religiously. He is now wary of his policies.
In a post on X, he said, “The real divide isn’t between people who support Israel and people who support Iran or the Palestinians. The real divide is between those who casually encourage violence and those who seek to prevent it — between warmongers and peacemakers.”
In the same social media post, he goes on to identify the warmongers.
“Who are the warmongers? They would include anyone who is calling Donald Trump today to demand air strikes and other direct US military involvement in a war with Iran. On that list: Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Rupert Murdoch, Ike Perlmutter and Miriam Adelson. At some point, they will all have to answer for this, but you should know their names now.”
ENEMIES ARE DESTROYING MAGA
In a podcast, he discusses with Steve Bannon – another far-right mouthpiece and Trump advocate – the “enemies” who are working on “destroying MAGA” with the war on Iran.
TED CRUZ DOESN’T KNOW IRAN POPULATION
Separately, Carlson blasted Senator Ted Cruz for his support to the war against Iran and not knowing the basic facts about the Middle East nation.
NOTHING WRONG WITH ISRAEL SPYING ON US
He also took Ted Cruz to task when the US senator said Israel has been spying on the US and he is comfortable with that.
In his reaction, Trump said, “I don’t know what Tucker Carlson is saying. Let him go get a television network and say it so that people listen.”
IMPEACH HIM
Meanwhile, there are others, who want to impeach Trump.
On the other hand, House of Representative member Marjorie Taylor Greene says, “Americans want cheap gas, groceries, bills, and housing”, not another foreign war.
